Hi
This is our account of how we are working a 100ftx20ft overgrown plot. We are two women from Bristol who have got an allotment for the first time in December 2006.
From brambles and clay to a productive and relaxing allotment.Well thats the plan anyway…..
We are on a low budget, but are resourceful and intend to have our allotment fully kitted out. We will be frequenting car boots, stopping off at skips and making use of any old crap we can get our mitts on.
As for growing – fruit, herbs, veg, flowers. We are both keen gardeners and our dream is to be self sufficient.
Please feel free to leave any comments or words of advice!
Cheers! Keener and Beaner

Hey Dibnah
Our first comments – very exciting! I’ve checked out both links – both are packed with information and tips on ethical, sustainable living -so now we have some useful links to put on the blog as opposed to our rather bland choices so far! Dibnah’s blog is brill and has inspired us/depressed us into changing our design – I promise not to copy you Dibnah (well not too much anyway!)
Best wishes, The Allotment Junkies
I’m flattered thanks, keep intouch

Hey Keener…
It’s been nice seeing you on my blog. I just want to say I appreciate what you and Beener are doing. My husband and I moved out of an urban area and now live in the country and grow all our produce for about 6 months out of the year. You two seem much more organized than we are, but we still manage to have wonderful organic veggies.
I think I might learn a thing or two from you two. We haven’t even started planting this year…but it’s possible to get snow into April where we live. We are getting our raised beds ready with mushroom compost currently. Will be able to start planting in about three weeks I guess.
be well!
Gianna
Hey Gianna this is getting spooky – lol! We have much in common!
I have grown veggies at home before in a very slap dash way, this is the first time I’ve ever been so ready for the growing season!
Good luck with your veggies for this year and I’d love to hear how you’re getting on …
Best wishes and good health to ya,
Keener
I’ve not been keeping up with my internet friends for various reasons but I just wanted to say how brilliant your plot looks from the photos I hope you are very proud. Keep up the good work and don’t forget to sit back and enjoy it.

Fair enough. thanks for stopping by.
hey! your one year blogaversary just passed!
congrats!
I was just asking my friend Google about organic rooting hormones, and she pointed me to your article (thanks, btw, it’s a perfect tip since there’s a willow just down the street from me), and after reading this I felt like cheering you on. Right now I’m just a fifteen year old maintaining a small organic garden on our balcony, but helping things grow (including all the squirrels, birds, and geckos that now find our balcony fascinating) has been the most fascinating experience, and eventually being able to use those skills to remove myself from the stranglehold of capitalism (or, if you’re not into the dramatic, “self-sufficiency”) sounds like an awesome way to live.
Many blessings, I hope you get covered in produce.
Om, Mani Padme Hum
it turned my closing parenthesis into a winking smiley.
Seems to make “self-sufficiency” sound like a dirty euphemism.
Like,
“Oh, yeah, I’m gonna be reaaally ’self-sufficient’, if you know what I mean hehehehe”
Thanks for the clarification Michael – lol!
