If you would like to see wheather your soil is acidic, neutral or alkaline and don’t want to buy a ph testing kit then you can use this simple recipe for making an organic soil ph indicator.
Chop half a red cabbage into a pan, add about a pint of water, and boil for 10–15 minutes.  Strain off the liquid into a bowl and allow it to cool.
Filtered water or rainwater works best, as these contain no chlorine (slightly acid). Once cool, pop in a bit of soil and see what colour the liquid changes.Â
The cabbage juice turns:
Blue/purple when neutral.
Bright red when acid.
Green when alkaline.
Why not throw the juice after you’ve finished onto your plants, click here for why!
Have fun and I wouldn’t wear a white linen suit whilst doing it neither!
